Made New
paperback, p. 114
Made New is a baptism book and Bible study that walks a new Christian through Jesus’ commands to believe and be baptized. Though it can be read and studied alone, it is probably best utilized as a book and study that can be read with a Christian companion. Made New was written to help new believers or curious seekers understand baptism, assess whether they need to be baptized, and prepare them for their baptism. Made New covers four chapters of readings and studies on a Christian’s:
New Identity
New Belief
New Family
New Life
How will you respond to the overarching invitation of the Lord Jesus Christ as captured in Mark 1:15, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel?” If you have responded in faith, then you might be asking, Is there anything left to do? The answer is no, not really, but also yes, yes there is. To clarify, there is nothing you need to do; instead, something has been done for you, which you need to confess and express as a faith-filled response publicly. ‘What shall we do?’ This is what people asked the Apostle Peter when he had finished preaching about Jesus on the day of Pentecost.
Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified. Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, ‘Brothers, what shall we do?’ Acts 2:37-39
What will you do? Perhaps you want to become a Christian. You may be a Christian who has come to saving faith in Jesus and wants to know what to do next. Perhaps you grew up in a Christian home, but now you want to express your faith in a personal way. You may have had saving trust in Jesus for many years, but have never been baptized. Or perhaps you decided to be baptized as a formality, but not as an expression of genuine saving faith. Peter says, ‘Repent and be baptized.’
